Banjaluka
Wild emerald rivers, centuries of history, and a food scene worth travelling for — here is how to fall for the region's greenest soul between milongas.
Natural Beauties
Find Your Peace & Feel the Energy
It is said that the soul of Banjaluka flows within the wild, cold, and emerald Vrbas river. October in Banjaluka has its own magic: golden leaves along the Vrbas, the smell of roasted chestnuts in the air, and the city at its most intimate.
The Dajak Boat Ride
The ultimate symbol of Banjaluka. Experience the river from a completely unique perspective inside a dajak — a sleek, narrow wooden boat pushed upstream with a long pole, a craft native only to this city.
Banj Brdo
The favourite wooded hill for local hikers and runners. At the top sits a monumental white stone structure by sculptor Antun Augustinčić, offering a panoramic viewpoint over the entire green valley of the city.
Krupa Waterfalls(Krupa na Vrbasu)
A short drive out of town where the small Krupa river crashes over moss-covered tufa barriers next to ancient wooden watermills. Here, you can buy freshly ground flour and hike up to a nearby medieval lookout.
City Tour
Where Ancient Walls Meet Endless Trees
Banjaluka combines all the advantages of a regional centre with a genuine, laid-back small-town atmosphere. Walk through wide avenues with towering canopies and admire architecture ranging from Ottoman remnants and Austro-Hungarian grandeur to socialist modernism and beautifully restored landmarks.
Kastel Fortress(Historical Bastion & Legend of Love)
A massive stone bastion sitting right at the confluence of the Crkvena and Vrbas rivers. With roots reaching back to Roman times, it stands today as the city's living history lab. It is great for a casual afternoon stroll, catching an open-air concert, or just breathing the city in while watching the river run.
Safikada's Tomb
Just across the way from the fortress stands this monument to Banjaluka's own tale of eternal love — a young woman who gave her life for a promise made to an Austro-Hungarian soldier. Even today, couples light candles here in her memory. Discover the full legend here.
Multicultural Spirit
Within just a few minutes' walk, visitors can find three places of worship representing different religions: the Ferhadija Mosque, the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, and the Cathedral of Saint Bonaventure. Their close proximity beautifully reflects the coexistence that is part of Banjaluka's identity.
Gospodska Street(Veselin Masleša Street)
The vibrant pedestrian artery of the town, lined with beautiful Austro-Hungarian facades. Perfect for shopping, people-watching, and absorbing the local tempo.
Cultural Hub
From the pedestrian zone, continue your walk to some of Banjaluka's most elegant landmarks, including the Banski Dvor Cultural Centre, the Presidential Palace, the Museum of Contemporary Art, and the National Theatre of Republika Srpska.
Park Mladen Stojanović
The perfect green space to start your day with a relaxing morning walk.

Banjalučki Ćevap
The culinary signature of the city. Unlike any other version in the Balkans, these ćevapi are grilled in distinct four-piece meat tiles tucked into fresh, soft somun bread. For an authentic experience, locals recommend A&D, Obelix, and Kod Muje.
Mala Stanica
A charming restaurant housed in a former railway station. It is famous among locals for serving what many proudly call the best soufflé in the world.
Poslastičarnica Manja
Home-made cakes, traditional pastries, and rich ice cream. Perfect for satisfying a sweet tooth, just like grandma used to make.

A fantastic spot for your specialty coffee break, with great artisan roasts, modern design, and sweet bites to recharge your batteries between milongas.
Mac Tire Pub
Banjaluka's favourite Irish pub, tucked away in a cosy basement in the heart of the city centre. Known for its wooden interior and impressive selection of beers.
Restoran Vrbas
A cosy riverside spot near the Kastel Fortress where you can sit right over the water, eat fresh trout, sip a local Nektar beer or wine, and listen to the river rapids. Don't miss the nearby floating bars Banjalučki Splav and Hedonist.
